It was revealed that 368 places of worship have been built on lands belonging to the Land Reform Commission (LRC).

These 368 places of worship include 325 Buddhist temples, 34 Kovils, 08 mosques and one church.

However, ownership records have been confirmed with regard to only 75 such places.

LRC Chairman Nilantha Wijesinghe said that places of worship have been built on about 700 acres of land belonging to the Commission but the LRC has not been able to confirm ownership records for over a decade.

The Chairman said that it has taken a prolonged time to confirm the ownership of these lands due to various obstacles in finding relevant information.

Mr. Wijesinghe said that the surveying of lands with regard to these 293 places of worship will be completed soon and prompt measures will be taken to provide proper land deeds.
