Among the group is the Convener of the Inter University Students Federation Wasantha Mudalige, Lahiru Weerasekera, Rathindu Senaratne also known as Ratta, and six others among whom are two Buddhist monks.
The youth have been named as suspects in connection with the protests that took place opposite the Police Headquarters, and the Fort Police Station on the 9th of June.
The Kaduwela and Fort Magistrate’s Courts were informed by the Fort and Thalangama Police Stations that the group engaged in protests on the 9th opposite the Police Headquarters and the Fort Police station and caused damage to Isurupaya on the 10th of June.
Police said the individuals named, obstructed officers from engaging in their duties by organising an illegal gathering, disrupted law and order, inflicted injuries, created obstructions, and damaged property among other charges. Police informed court that the group violated the Public Properties Act and the Road Act.
Accordingly, the group that was identified by Police have been named as suspects in connection with the incidents.
