Hospitals including Apeksha in jeopardy

The daily activities at Maharagama Apeksha Cancer hospital is in danger of been disrupted due to the fuel shortage as doctors and hospital staff find it difficult to report to work stated Consultant Surgeon Dr. Kanishka De Silva. 

He added that if a proper system of obtaining fuel for doctors and hospital staff is not implemented, hospital functions will be disrupted. 

The Director of the Apeksha hospital, Dr. Aruna Jayasekera said that a letter requesting that priority be given to doctors and hospital staff has been issued, however, it has been problematic presenting the letter at filling stations in view of the lengthy queues. 

Meanwhile, all non-essential operations have been limited and emergency surgeries are going ahead, stated the Director of the National Hospital Dr. Kumara Wickremasinghe. 

The Ministry of Health secretary Janaka Shri Chandraguptha meanwhile stated that a request has been forwarded to the Ministry of Power and Energy to issue fuel to doctors and hospital staff on a priority basis.
