The verdict was handed down by Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.

The case was filed by the Attorney General against Hasitha Samantha Muhandiram alias 'Sarpaya' in connection with the shooting of former Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councilor Ranjith Nandasena and his bodyguard and burning their bodies in a vehicle in Kalawana in 1999.
