Midwives ready for deliveries at home

Chairperson of the Government Midwives' Association Devika Kodithuwakku said that family health workers are ready to perform deliveries at home when pregnant mothers cannot be hospitalized in the face of the fuel crisis.

The Chairperson also said that the midwives are committed to assisting and caring for pregnant mothers in hospitals as well as at their homes as they work on the field.

She said that already many pregnant women in rural areas are facing difficulties getting to hospitals due to the fuel crisis. Therefore, she said that the midwives are prepared to assist them deliver the babies whenever and wherever necessary.

Kodithuwakku said that as the Medical Council has granted them permission to perform deliveries anywhere, this decision was taken to step in and assist mothers who are unable to get to hospitals for child birth.
