Online Safety Bill passed (Update)

The Online Safety Bill was passed in Parliament with amendments a short while ago.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed the House that the Online Safety Bill was passed in the Committee Stage with amendments.

2nd reading of Online Safety Bill passed

The second reading of the Online Safety Bill has been passed in Parliament by a majority of 46 votes.

The Bill received 108 votes in favour and 62 against.

Non-academic university staff to launch 2-day token strike

The non-academic staff members of state universities have decided to go on a two-day token strike over several demands including a salary hike.

Accordingly, the strike will be held tomorrow (Feb.28) and the day after (Feb.29), University Trade Union Joint Committee’s Dhammika Priyantha said.

The committee had also warned to resort to a continuous TU action if authorities fail to address their issues within a week.
