The Head of State invited the Samagi Jana Alliance to work together in this regard.
President Wickremesinghe expressed his views during a discussion with members of the Samagi Jana Alliance at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (5) led by Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa pertaining to the formation of an all-party government.
President Wickremesinghe said while he has no intention of continuing the State of Emergency, certain laws must be enforced during the upcoming economic programme, that will require the State of Emergency to be in place.
MP Premadasa expressing his views proposed that provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution be carried forward.
He said the main concern in the country today is the economic burden placed on the people, and called for more attention to be directed to seeking solutions.
MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka meanwhile said the establishment of an all-party government will not be beneficial.
MP Fonseka said he does not see such a government providing solutions to the existing issues adding it is crucial to provide immediate solutions to the people’s grievances.
