75 families still live in temporary huts a year after Aranayake landslide Featured

As the first anniversary of the landslide at Samasara Kanda in Aranayake falls today (17), 75 of the affected families still live in temporary huts.

The disaster claimed 32 lives, while many others lost their homes, also due to a high risk area being declared.

In addition to those living in temporary huts, others live with their families or have rented houses.

Secretary to the ministry of disaster management S.S. Miyanwala said land have been identified to build houses for these homeless families.

A total of 571 families were evacuated from the area and only 54 of them have been given permanent housing.
