Karunanayake was calmed down by the PM at a meeting of UNP ministers at Temple Trees last night (21), after having said previously that he would not accept any ministerial position other than finance, as reported by 'LankaNewsWeb'.

Meanwhile, the president and the PM have agreed that the country’s foreign policy should focus on economic upliftment, and budget 2018 is to be prepared accordingly.
Hence, the decision to appoint Karunanayake as the foreign minister, also on the basis of the new relations created with other countries after the new government took office.
