Ransomware renders Inland Revenue inactive Featured

The ransomware malicious software has rendered tax collection inactive, as the Inland Revenue Department has stopped getting connected to the internet and using email, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

A Rs. 9,000 million project by the Department to computerize its revenue administration management information system too, has been affected.

Named Ramsey, this method had been introduced with assistance from the Singaporean government by former finance secretary P.B. Jayasundara.

Department trade unions say around Rs. nine billion had been spent on the project, and personnel given training in Singapore in several stages.
