‘No illegal construction in Sri Pada forest reserve’ Featured

Deputy minister Karunaratne Paranawithana says he can say with full responsibility that no illegal construction is taking place in the Sri Pada reserve area.

The issue has arisen over a move to change a construction already located on a private land outside the reserve area into a holiday bungalow, he told the media yesterday (02).

The CEA approval has been given to the construction, he added.

Paranawithana said there were persons honestly concerned about any harm to the Sri Pada reserve, while others tried to create trouble between the Buddhists and followers of Islam.

He condemned allegations leveled against chief incumbent of Sri Pada Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thera after his remark that all faiths revered Sri Pada, or Adam’s Peak.
