Being bilingual is advantageous in public service Featured

Minister Mano Ganeshan says bilingual applicants will be given special marks at interviews for recruitment to the public service.

The state Languages Ministry will recruit only those having Sinhala and Tamil language proficiencies, he says.

Recruitment of interpreters to state institutions to facilities services to the public will be another measure, according to him.

Ganeshan also says steps will be taken to prevent problems among communities on the basis of race, religion or language.

Racial harmony suffers due to extremists’ painting wrong pictures, and Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and other should go forward as Sri Lankans, says the minister.
