Fonseka gets 600 Navy men to clean canals Featured

The Navy is concerned by regional development minister, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka’s use of 600 personnel he has loaned from the Navy to clean garbage-filled canals in Kelaniya, reports say.

Fonseka has asked Navy chief Ravindra Wijegunaratne for the men, saying that the main reason for floods in the area was the blockage of canals.

Fonseka is supervising the Navy men in this task.

However, he strongly criticized the then defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa when he used members of the military for road construction and garbage disposal work.
