Badminton Assn. risks facing ban Featured

The Sri Lanka Badminton Association is unable to hold its election of office-bearers as scheduled, on June 13, due to the non-receipt of its audited accounts reports.

Since the association has had no audit of its accounts done for around eight years, it will take several more days to finish the task, it has been informed by the Auditor General’s Department.

According to new regulations in the Sports Act, an election can take place only 14 days after audited accounts reports are made available.

However, the Badminton World Federation has told the local body to hold its election before June 15, or else face a ban.

The SLBA has written to the global association, informing it about the situation, and seeking more time to hold the election.

However, there is no response yet, say sports ministry sources.
