Military suffers Rs. 7.5 billion loss! Featured

Due to the removal of the Army Headquarters at Galle Face according to a decision taken by the previous regime and the premises being given over for the construction of a luxury hotel, of the Shangri La hotel chain, the government has lost around Rs. 7.5 billion so far, it is reported.

 In order to shift the Army Headquarters to Akuregoda in Battaramulla, the plans were drawn up and the Galle Face land was handed over to Shangri La.

Thereafter, except for the Army Commanders Office and several other officers of military senior officials, the rest of the military offices were shifted to Kelaniya, Narahenpita, Slave Island, Thunmulla, R.A. de Mel Mawatha and several other locations on rental basis.

Due to this decision taken during the tenure of then Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in 2011, the Army was compelled to pay over Rs. 100 million monthly on the rentals for these locations.

Army Headquarters to shift to Battaramulla in April, 2018!

Expressing his views to the media, Military Spokesman Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne admitted that since 2011 the military had to face such a predicament, but added that instructions have been received to expedite the work on the Military Headquarters in Battaramulla and expressed hope that by April 2018 the Army Headquarters will be shifted to Battaramulla.
