Sri Lanka ranked higher in Global Peace Index!

According to the 2017 Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka is ranked 80th out of 163 countries and 2nd among the South Asian countries.


The total points obtained by Sri Lanka is 2.019 which is an increase of from 0.116 points compared to last year.

Last year according to the 2016 Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranked 97th of the 163 countries and ranked 4th in the South Asian region.

Last year Sri Lanka obtained 2.133 points which was an increase of 0,053 compared to the previous year.

Most peaceful country, Iceland

According to the Global Peace Index, Iceland remained the most peaceful country in the world, a spot it has occupied since 2008.

Of the South Asian countries, the most peaceful country is Bhutan, while Bangladesh is ranked 3rd, Nepal 4th, India and Pakistan 5th and Afghanistan 6th.

Researchers used a multifaceted index of peace indicators in determining the peacefulness of these countries. They measured the homicide rate, the ease of access to weapons, the impact of terrorism and the number of armed services personnel in the population, among other things.

The Institute for Economics and Peace has been conducting its Global Peace survey since 2007.

It is the world’s most prominent peace survey measuring peace at the global and national level which allows access to the social, political and economic factors that create peace.

While the Institute for Economics and Peace in an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think Tank and it believes that peace is the most positive investment for human wellbeing and progress.
