Tourist Board destroying Palatupana? Featured

Environmentalists are protesting against the development projects being carried out in the Yala, Palatupana area lands, entrusted to the Tourist Board by the Wildlife Department.

It is reported that the Wildlife Department has given over 1,175 acres (448.3 hectares) from this area to the Tourist Board.

This land has been given to the Tourist Board to construct tourist abodes comprising hotels, holiday bungalows and cabanas etc.

Around 70 acres of this land has already been leased to investors by the Tourist Board on long term lease agreements.

The rest of the land (1,105 acres) has also been plotted out and is expected to be given to investors in the near future.
