Manipal University to set up branch in Kalutara Featured

The proposal by Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella forwarded on February 14, 2017, to parliament for the establishment of a branch of the Manipal University of India in the Kalutara district, was approved by the Cabinet at its last meeting.

A land of 100 acres in extent has been allocated for this project expected to commence with a $ 75 million initial investment.

The intention of this venture is to pave the way for private investors to invest in the higher education sector in Sri Lanka.

The Higher Education Minister said it will pave the way for students to pursue their degrees in IT, Management and Engineering at this facility.

However, although Panipal University’s Medical Faculty has gained world recognition, the government has decided against establishing a Medical Faculty in Kalutara considering the opposition the government is facing with regard to SAITM.
