‘Vidya was raped to sell the visuals’ Featured

The killing of Jaffna schoolgirl Sivaloganathan Vidya was a planned-crime with an attempted videoing of her being raped as part of a major South Asian racket to sell visuals of girls being sexually-abused, acting attorney general Dappula de Livera said.

He said an investigation into persons who tried to protect the criminals revealed an attempt to cover up the probe by giving a Rs. 20 million bribe.

De Livera was making submissions to a Jaffna high court trial at bar that yesterday (28) began hearing the case pertaining to the abduction, gang-rape and murder of the 17-year-old Vidya on 13 May 2015.

The AG has filed indictments against nine of the 12 suspects under arrest.

The accused are Pubalasingham Indrakumar, Pubalasingham Jayekumar, Mahalingam Shashidaran, Tillainathan Chandrakanth, Sivadevan Kushanthan, Palani Rupasingham Kuganathan, Jayadaran Kokilan and Mahalingam Shashikumar.
