Bribery Commission request rejected, case dismissed

Former Bribery Commissioner and Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara, on September 06, 2016, had created a story, framed a charge sheet and produced Gen. Palitha Fernando and Chairman AGMS Nissanka Senadhipathy before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and on the same day they were granted bail.

Later, the Bribery Commission again filed a case in the Colombo High Court HC 149/16 and requested to cancel the bail granted by the Magistrate’s Court.

The case was heard in Court 07 while Attorney Gamini Marapana appeared for Gen. Palitha Fernando and Attorney Romesh De Silva appeared for Senadhipathy.

State Counsel Janaka Bandara tried his best to argue and convince court, but he had no grounds.

After written and verbal submissions of both parties, the Colombo High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinge rejected the request made by the Bribery Commission and dismissed the case.

Gen. Palitha created this trust fund to help sportsmen. He was the Chairman of the AASL (Athletic Association of Sri Lanka) and recently he was again elected to the same post.

AGMS chairman Nissanka Senadhipathy and another 5 people funded this trust fund.

This was another of the thousands of charity work which Senadhipathy had done.

All funds in the trust still remain as FDs while only the interest generated is used to assist sportsmen.

Audited accounts have also been maintained for the funds.
