New Army Commander to be appointed next Monday! Featured

With General Crisanthe De Silva being appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, a new Army Commander is expected to be appointed next Monday (03), a senior Presidential Secretariat official told Sri Lanka Mirror.

Currently, there is a three way battle for the post of Army Commander between Major General Bonniface Perera, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe and Major General Mahesh Senanayake.

All three have commenced a fierce battle for the position.

Currently, Major General Bonniface Perera is commanding the Volunteer Force, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe is serving as the Commander Security Force Headquarters West and Major General Mahesh Senanayake is serving as the Chief of Staff.
Politicians, Monks divided support:

Several ministers are pressuring the President to appoint Major General Mahesh Senanayake as the Commander, while several Buddhist monks have been pressuring the President to appoint Major General Bonniface Perera as the next Commander.
The appointment of the new Commander has been delayed due to this tug of war, it is reported.
