Army Commander offers greater assistance to probe cases on journalists

So far the army had not cooperated in the investigations of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda, but with the appointment of the new Army Commander. General Mahesh Senanayake, the military assistance for these investigations have improved.

The records pertaining to the Girithale Intelligence Unit and telephone records were so far not given to the CID by the army despite several court orders.

However during a meeting in this regard held on July 11, it was discussed and the army had now agreed to cooperate in the investigations.

Accordingly, the CID is hopeful that the military will cooperate in the investigations of the Lasantha Wickrematunge murder, Poddala Jayantha, Leith Noyahr and Upali Tennakone assault cases.
