PM’s stand on national govt.’s future Featured

Everybody has a responsibility to take the national government forward irrespective of any disruptions on the way, says prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He was speaking at the commencement of a construction of a housing project this morning (17) at Weera Mawatha at Pannipitiya for state and private sector processionals.

Noting that it was a difficult task for the two main parties to work together, he said that decision had been taken nevertheless.

Paying attention to the world

He said a national government was formed in 2015 with the leadership of president Maithripala Sirisena due to the understanding that a big responsibility had to be fulfilled.

We decided to work together to solve the problems, although we could have said that we could have a government of our own in accordance with the old political traditions.

He also said international assistance was forthcoming and that the debt burden, that could not be handled, was being dealt with now.

No special advantage

The PM said neither the UNP nor the SLFP would gain a special advantage through this, despite it being a difficult task.

In a national government, even a minor lack of attention could lead to nowhere, but we decided to go ahead for the country’s sake, Mr. Wickremesinghe added.
