4 killed in Tambuttegama accident

Four family members were killed and four others were injured in a vehicle accident that occurred early this morning in Eriagama, Tambuttegama.

Police said when a lorry which was travelling from Kurunegala towards Anuradhapura was attempting to make a stop near a shop, a van coming from behind had collided with the lorry.

Eight people in the van who were seriously injured in the accident were admitted to the Tambuttegama Hospital.

Two men aged 36 and 46 and two women aged 36 and 43 who are members of the same family residing in Kahatagasdigiliya were killed in the accident.

A 55-year-old man, two 11-year-old and 6-year-old boys and an 8-year-old girl were injured in the accident.

Investigations revealed that this fatal accident was caused by the van driver’s reckless driving.

The lorry driver has been arrested in connection with the accident and the Tambuttegama Police are conducting further investigations.
