Arrangements have been made to hold a discussion between the Professionals’ Trade Union collective and President Ranil Wickremesinghe today (25).
Media spokesman of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) – Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe says that they are to demand to abolish the unfair tax policy imposed by the government, at the discussion.
He added that representatives of all 40 trade unions will attend the discussion which will be held today at 10.30 am.
The TUs include professionals from several fields including port, electricity, medicine, water supply, banking, petroleum and university academics.
They have been protesting a recent hike in personal income taxes which sees anyone earning over 100,000 rupees a month being taxed.
