NHDA Dy. Gen. Manager suspended over invoice issue

Deputy General Manager (Information) of the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) - Dhama Sri Kariyawasam has been suspended, reports say.

However, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that the NHDA chairman - L.S. Palansuriya has suspended Mr. Kariyawasam, but had not given a finite reason for suspending him.

On Oct. 25, Mr. Kariyawasam had received a suspension letter saying that he was suspended on the grounds of committing serious malpractices.

Upon contacting the NHDA chairman, we were initially told to call him later as he is at a function. A similar attempt later was unsuccessful as well.

Payment sans an invoice
However, according to internal sources, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that the closest reason for the suspension is Mr. Kariyawasam overlooking a request to make a payment to a TV channel in return for a TV commercial of an apartment project. The request was made despite the absence of an invoice needed to make the payment, reports say.

Rumours also say that the suspension follows the resurfacing of a spat between the duo which had been prolonging for years.
