The first high tech deep sea surveillance ship manufactured for the Sri Lanka Navy at the Goa dock yard in India, approached the Colombo harbour today (28).

It was officially handed over to Sri Lanka recently.

The contract to build this high tech vessel was given to the Goa dock yard in 2014 by the Navy.

This high tech Navy ship will now conduct surveillance operations within Sri Lankan territorial waters, search operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster and emergency response. In addition this vessel will also be used for ocean pollution prevention operations as well.

The second such high tech ship built for the Sri Lanka Navy is scheduled to be brought to Sri Lanka in 2018.
