No confidence motion by JVP against Ravi! Featured

In the event the President and Prime Minister fails to take action against Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake within the next few days, where serious allegations were being unravelled before the Central Bank Bond Commission, the JVP would bring in a no confidence motion against him in parliament.

They point out that Ravi Karunanayake was removed from his post as the Finance Minister and appointed as Foreign Minister due to the serious allegations levelled against him.

Based on the information revealed before the Treasury Commission recently, if a no confidence motion is brought against Karunanayake, UNP ministers Dayasiri Jayasekara and Ranjan Ramanayake have publicly vowed to support it.

Joint Opposition decision?

Although JO – MP Namal Rajapaksa revealed at a press briefing on July 26, that measures were being discussed to bring in a no confidence motion against Ravi Karunanayake, it is reported that the decision has since changed.  

The reason being that certain JO leaders are of the view that Ravi Karunanayake being within the government is advantageous to the opposition.

Minister’s wife and daughter:

Meanwhile, giving evidence before the Treasury Bond Commission yesterday (28), the Chief Financial Officer of Global Logistics Transportation (Pvt) Company B.J. Sinniah said the luxury apartment in Kollupitiya was purchased for a sum of Rs.165 million based on a decision of the directors of Global Logistics Transportation. The two directors are Mela Karunanayake and Onella Karunanayake, the wife and the daughter of Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

Sinnaiah also said since the company did not have the funds to pay for it, the GLTC applied for a loan facility from Seylan Bank in the latter part of 2016 to purchase the said penthouse at Monarch residencies in Colpetty.

He said, he was not given a receipt when accepting such a large sum of money and that the company does not have any documentation indicating that such a large sum was obtained.
