‘Maruti, three-wheeler prices will go up’ Featured

The prices of several vehicles have been amended in view of the duty amendments introduced through budget 2017, says president of the vehicle importers association Indika Sampath Merenchige.

He says the per unit tax on cars with a 1000 cc engine capacity has been raised by Rs. 250, which will increase the price of a Maruti car by around Rs. 200,000.

With the Rs. 300 per unit tax increase for 1800 – 2000 cc hybrid cars, the price of a XL car will go up by Rs. 01 million, according to him.

Also, the tax amendment for-three wheelers will result in a price increase of around Rs. 50,000.

Price decreases

With the reduction of taxes for electric cars, the price of a Leaf car will come down by around Rs. 300,000 – 400,000, Merenchige says.

The minimum price of a HiAce will be reduced by around Rs. 4.5 million due to the reduction of taxes on dual-purpose vehicles.

A 50 per cent minimum tax for double-cabs and a Rs. one million minimum tax for small lorries with less than a 1000 cc capacity have also been introduced, he notes.
