45 MOH zones have been identified as dengue high risk zones so far, says Dr. Nimalka Pannilahetti of the National Dengue Control Unit.
Among these there are 10 zones in Colombo District, eight from Gampaha District, three from Kalutara District, 11 from Kandy District, two from Matale District, two from Galle District, one from Batticaloa District, one from Kurunegala District, four from Puttalam District and three from the Kegalle District.
Meanwhile, the highest number of infected people are reported from the Western Province and the number is 34,645 (47.5%).
In November alone, 4,347 infected people have been reported. So far 15,464 infected people have been reported from Colombo District, 14,596 from Gampaha District, 4585 from Kalutara District, 7,068 from Kandy District, 3,371 from Puttalam District, 3,065 from Kegalle district, 2,933 from Ratnapura district. 2,797 from Kurunegala district.
She said that in order to reduce the spread of dengue during the rainy season, the public is requested to take steps to keep the environment clean and prevent collection of rainwater to curb breeding of mosquitoes.
