5 prominent figures in political circles, including a wife of a politician allegedly involved in various frauds and corruption, are to be arrested in early 2025, reports the ‘Mawbima’ newspaper, citing reliable government sources.
The figures are said to include a prominent politician who had defrauded money from the public, in exchange for overseas employment as well as a current Parliamentarian representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, it adds.
In addition, more will face legal redress over several cases of looting the country’s national wealth, including misdeeds during fighter plane deals and the infamous bond issue, the report further notes.
