4 main reasons for decline in FDI Featured

Economists give four main reasons for a decline in foreign direct investments to Sri Lanka.

Foremost among them is fraud, corruption and financial crime committed by politicians and state officials.

The considerable depreciation of the local currency, massive debt burden and the resultant economic instability are the others.

These reasons come in the way of government moves to raise FDI, economists note.

Meanwhile, the executive board of the IMF has advised the government to go for planning on risk management and to ensure continuous sustainable growth.
