Army deserters respond positively to amnesty

In response to a general amnesty granted to all army deserters, within three days 1,819 deserters had reported to their respective camps, according to Army Headquarters.

Two of those who had reported back were officers and none of the military personnel who surrendered in response to the general amnesty will be charged, said Military Spokesman Major General Roshan Seneviratne.

The general amnesty will be in force from October 23 to November 15, while all those who surrendered except from the Medical Corps, will be eligible for formal discharge.
