Beef consumption declines! Featured

Consumption of beef and related products are on the decline in Sri Lanka, according to a study.

Conducted by the police development office of the prime minister’s office, the study’s results indicate a decrease that followed an increased consumption between 2008 and 2010.

In 2015, it notes, 32,156 metric tons of beef were consumed, which decreased to 31,558 mt in 2016.

The study also shows the production of beef and related products too, are on the decline, from 32,180 mt in 2015 to 31,540 mt in 2016.

By 2016, Sri Lanka had a total cattle population of 1,792,452.
