Thilanga to resign?

Thilanga Sumathipala has decided to resign from his position as the head of Sri Lanka Cricket, according to a report in the ‘Resa’ newspaper.

It is reported that high level interference as well as his political activities have prompted him to take this decision.

It is believed that the Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Mohan de Silva had resigned from his post and taken up position as the Deputy Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket in preparation of this move.

The Sri Lankan team’s performance at the recent Bangladesh tour is also a factor that changed his decision.

However, the elections and selection of office bearers of Sri Lanka Cricket is expected to be held towards May 23 this year.

According to the new Sports Act, he has provision to remain in his post for a period of four years, and Thilanga has decided to call for an election accordingly.

Despite several attempts to contact Thilanga Sumathipala for a comment, our attempts failed, but according to a high ranking official of Sri Lanka Cricket, this news item is completely false.

He noted that certain parties are conspiring to remove his from his post and this attempt is also a part of this conspiracy.
