‘Volkswagen factory cannot unravel economic mess’ Featured

Sri Lanka needs to attract 15 billion dollars of investments within a year to strengthen the national economy, economists say.

The Volkswagen factory to be launched next January will bring only three billion dollars of investment, they point out.

The only alternative available to come out of the economic mess is to sell the Mattala airport and Hambantota port build during the previous regime with Chinese investments, according to them.

However, that too, will bring in only between six and eight billion dollar, and that will create problems at regional level, economists add.
