Probe requested into magistrate over LeN editor arrest order Featured

The Judicial Services Commission has been asked to investigate Gampaha chief magistrate Kavindya Nanayakkara for having issued a warrant for the arrest of the Lanka e News editor, as she has been criticized by the website.

The request by the young journalists association of Sri Lanka has come in a lengthy letter it has sent to JSC secretary G.M.W.P. Jayatilake.

The association questions the magistrate’s having ordered the CID, in the course of a hearing into the assault on former ‘Rivira’ editor Upali Tennakoon, to probe the website.

It points out that LeNe was not the only media outlet that had posted pictures of the assault suspect, and notes the magistrate has taken a different approach with regard to a newspaper that published the same pictures.
