74 schools with hazardous buildings identified – Susil

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament today that 74 schools islandwide have been identified to have hazardous buildings and structures.

These schools include Thurston College, Colombo and Tangalle Balika Vidyalaya, he said.

He said this while making a special statement in Parliament regarding the tragic death of a 06-year-old schoolgirl at Weragoda Vidyalaya in Wellampitiya.

He said that authorities of these schools have been instructed to evacuate children from the buildings at risk and that alternative measures will be taken to accommodate the children until the buildings are renovated.

4 SL players in ICC men’s ODI team of 2024

Four Sri Lankan players have been included in the ICC men’s ODI team of 2024.

Sri Lankan players Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga have been named in this manner.

Also, Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain while Kusal Mendis has been named as the wicket keeper of the team.

2 including Salochana Gamage granted bail

Two persons including former Western Provincial Councillor – Salochana Gamage, who were arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe, have been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (24).

Each suspect was granted bail, subject to a cash bail of Rs. 25,000, two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each, and an overseas travel ban. 

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali also ordered that the guarantors must be close relatives of the two suspects.
