So far, 88 million people had fallen victim to the HIV virus and AIDS claimed 35 million lives.
In Sri Lanka, there are around 4,200 HIV positive cases, said the National STD and AIDS Prevention Programme’s director Dr. Sisira Liyanage.
By September, 2,502 patients had been identified and 405 of them had died.
However, only around 1,000 are registered with clinics for treatment, he said.
The danger here is that around half of the HIV positive cases do not know that they carry the virus, he added.
