Web censorship futile - Namal

The measures taken by the government to block social media sites has no bearing on the racial tensions said MP Namal Rajapaksa.

He said this to the media at the Courts complex, where he was attending a hearing.

The government had taken measures to ban social media sites with the aim of curtailing hate messages and comments being spread but the MP added that this is a futile effort and would have no bearing as there are plenty of other ways of logging onto these sites surpassing the blockade imposed by the government.
In 2015, such a ban was imposed in India but it was not practically viable and it was required to look into the core issues of the government and address these issues, he said.
