‘Websites engaged in unscrupulous activities’ - Duminda

Some websites are using his name and creating fake news, then attempting to make amends by asking for monthly advertisements and engaging in such unethical media practices, said the SLFP General Secretary and Agriculture Minister Duminda Dissanayake.

He said these parties were using the freedom of speech and freedom of expression to engage in such unscrupulous activities, blatantly violating all media ethics, vehemently condemning such acts.

The minister said the government has no intention of continuing to block social media sites, adding that in the future stern action would be taken against those who use social media to instigate racial violence.

The government cannot stand by and watch the fundamental rights of over 20 million citizens being endangered just to protect the freedom of expression of a handful of extremists elements, Dissanayake added.
