Maithri plans to make Gotabhaya his successor Featured

Citizen’s Power alleges that president Maithripala Sirisena is planning to make Gotabhaya Rajapaksa his successor.

Its convener Gamini Viyangoda says civil society organizations will not allow that to happen, and demands the president and the prime minister abolish the executive presidency as promised.

He has told lankanewsweek that the conduct of president Sirisena made it clear that he would not realize the aspirations of the late Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera in the next two years at least.

Maithri is allying with Elle and Gnanasara Theras…

That has been made clear by his being accompanied by Elle Gunawansa Thera in a tour of Kandy, holding a media briefing with racist and religious extremist monks and taking Galabodaatte Gnanasara Thera in the president’s tour of Japan, said Viyangoda.

President Sirisena, just like Mahinda and Gotabhaya Rajapaksa did then, is aiding anti-Muslim sentiments in the country, he charged.

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe’s silence all this while proves that he is not a leader with a backbone who can take firm decisions, he said.

He said civil society organizations were discussing the failure to get Sobhitha Thera’s aspirations realized through president Sirisena and PM Wickremesinghe.
