The Matara Division Crimes Bureau yesterday (Nov. 03) arrested eight suspects involved in a shooting that killed one person and injured two others in the Goviyapana area in Midigama Police Division.
The crime took place on September 19, where the suspects on a motorcycle had fled after opening fire at a person in a fish market in the Goviyapana area.
Among the suspects arrested yesterday is said to be the main shooter, 05 accomplices and a female suspect. The suspects, aged between 20 and 42, are residents of Ahangama, Weligama, and Wellawaya, while the female suspect is a 41-year-old resident of Ahangama.
They were subsequently taken to the Matara Police Station and a three-wheeler used to transport the weapon after the crime was also seized by police.
Police have also found cash, a firearm and live ammunition.
The Matara Division Crimes Bureau is conducting further investigations.
