The historic ’80 Club’ located in Colombo 07, which was taken over by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), has not generated any income so far though it has been renovated at a cost of Rs.411 million.
This institution was taken under the purview of the UDA in November 2020 and the renovation work was carried out by the army.
A group of people have formed a club together in room number 80 of the ‘Queens’ Hotel, Kandy. Later, they launched their operations in the respective land under the name ’80 Club.’
UDA Chairman Nimesh Herath said that the club will be opened to the public from next week.
However, the employees alleged that the UDA Chairman continues to follow a silent policy despite having discussions on several occasions.
