A common candidate again? Featured

Co-cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne says the prime minister discussed with him, after the May Day celebrations, about fielding a common candidate at the next presidential election too.

He made the remark in response to a question raised by a journalist at a media briefing at the Government Information Department today (10).

A decision would be taken if a common candidate or a party leader would contest, once the election is announced, he said.

If the UNF reaches agreement on a common candidate, that will be discussed with other parties too, said Senaratne.

Also speaking here, co-cabinet spokesman Gayantha Karunatilake said the UNP working committee, according to tradition, would decide a candidate once the presidential election was announced.
