IGP is meditating as crimes are on the rise - Mahinda Featured

There has been an increase in crimes, but the police are adopting a silent approach, alleges ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The IGP is conducting meditations amidst a wave of crimes, he said at a function at Ananda Bodhi Vivekasramaya at Talliyedde in Warakapola.

Rajapaksa said many have forgotten how he had asked the police chief to resign over the shooting of protestors at Katunayake.

A swipe at Basil?
The ex-president’s remark is thought to be a swipe at a statement made by his brother, ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa, a few days earlier.

Basil told a meeting of SLPP LG members that he was sorry that the government at the time exceeded its limit when dealing with the Katunayake, Chilaw and Rathupaswala protests.
