AG takes no positive action over 63 investigation files Featured

No positive action has yet been taken with regard to the 63 final investigation files referred to the Attorney General’s Department for action in connection with the serious acts of wrongdoing that had taken place during the previous regime, reports say.

They include the files pertaining to ex-MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena and former Port Authority chairman Priyath Bandu Wikrama.

Proponents of good governance allege the AG has delayed or abandoned the enforcement of the law over these instances.

Case withdrawn due to technical mistake

Also, the AG has shown negligence over the court case against Basil Rajapaksa, as he had to withdraw the case pertaining to the abuse Rs. 29 million of Divineguma Fund money to print five million almanacs.

Filed in the Colombo high court, the case was withdrawn citing a technical mistake in the indictment papers.

The case could have been rejected as the manner of filing the accusations was wrong.

The AG then had to file a fresh case.
