The report was over a forcible land acquisition by Minister Thewarapperuma.
The Colpetty Police OIC had summoned the Balumgala team and questioned them over the news report and demanded that they reveal their informants.
However, they had notified the police that it was within their legal rights to protect their sources and were not willing to reveal their sources.
The Balumgala team had notified the police that their report was correct and had said that state property such as the wooden lamp posts had also been taken to construct the fence at this said property.
But, the police OIC had been annoyed that the Balumgala team had refused to reveal their sources and had threatened them saying, “Let’s see, we will find out”.
Accordingly, the Colpetty Police had mislead the courts and obtained a court order to obtain a detailed telephone bill on the Neth telephone number.
The police who had obtained the telephone bill had on several occasions called the numbers listed on the bill and summoned them to the Colpetty Police station for questioning.
Some of the Neth FM listeners who had called that number to request for songs too had been summoned by the police in this manner.
When Sri Lanka Mirror contacted Neth FM in this regard, they said that legal action would be taken regarding the police action.
