5 cases chosen for first anti-corruption High Court Featured

The first of the anti-corruption High Courts will come into being after July 12, report say.

This court will take up cases on a daily basis and the attorney general has already chosen five cases to be tried by the new court.

It will be located in the building where the traffic court was previously housed in front of the superior court complex in Colombo.

The renovation of this building by the Navy is nearing completion and will be handed over to the Justice Ministry on July 12.

The chief justice has chosen Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Wijeratne as the judges to be sitting at this court.

The second of the three anti-corruption High Courts will be opened in Wattala in September this year.
