Anunayake Theras’ views on the death penalty

The country’s laws are implemented for the betterment of the people and it is the duty of the relevant authorities to implement the law to protect the people, said the Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter Most Venerable Dimbul Kumbure Sri Wimaladhamma Thera and the Mahalekanadhikari of the Asgiri Chapter Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera.

It is the duty of every state leader and the government to serve the people and provide them safety, as laws from the past have been implemented to safeguard the people’s rights, the Theras noted.

The Theras expressed their views on the decision taken by the President to ensure the maximum punishment for those responsible for crimes and drug incidents within the country.

They noted that even Buddhism it is stated about acting towards the wellbeing of the people and it is the duty of every state leader and government to take measures to ensure the betterment and safety of the public.

Accordingly, Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera said he hoped that the President would take a firm decision that would benefit the general public.
